Today I'll show you how to make your own boxy fox with fleece! Fleece is such a nice fabric to work with when the weather gets cool. It is also just enough amount of stretch to make these foxes the perfect plumpness. With just the right amount of quirky.

This tutorial, like all the tutorials you'll find on my blog, is for personal use only! Do not sell items made from this pattern. You may however, purchase a production license for the boxy fox right here.
boxy fox tutorial
Materials:
1/3 yard fleece
1/3 yard interfacing
felt scraps for eyes and markings, embroidery thread optional
polyfil
needle and thread for closing the fox
pattern pieces
Let's get started! First things first, print the pdf. You'll have to cut out the pieces and tape them together where indicated, along the dotted line.
After you cut out the pattern pieces in fleece and interfacing, use the tip of the tail to cut out a contrast color of fleece.
This is what you should have. If you are using a one-sided fabric, be sure you have mirror image fox pieces. Fleece is two-sided so it doesn't matter.Pin on the ear, eye and eye marking pieces. And pin on the tail marking at the end of the tail.
Sew over them. Don't sew over the black eye part, just make sure you catch it while you are sewing the eye marking on.
Now back your pieces with interfacing. If you are using fusible be sure to use a low heat so you don't melt your fleece. If you're just sewing it in, just place it on the back.
Now stack your fox pieces, with right sides together. Pin all the way around stretching your fleece as needed to match up.
Sew all the way around, leaving a 2 inch hole under the belly. Clip the points, corners and curves and turn it right side out.
Stuff your fox.
And sew up the opening.
Ta-da!
You can make this fox with lightweight cotton, too! Meet Vintage Sheet Fox. She has ruffle eyelashes and a slim figure.

Have you ever heard a fox noise? I guess they bark. When I play with toys with Little C I like to make the noise. I can't bring myself to do this, though.
Happy Friday!

what a cute little fox! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love your little fox! What I like the best is the tail! Can't have a fox without a bushy tail! (Early in the morning we often see little foxes in our backyard. They are such timid creatures!)
ReplyDeleteAnother cute pillow! The funny thing is, I decided on a woodland theme for my boy's halloween a while back and the three forest animals I picked are hedgehog, owl and fox! I guess great minds think a like! Maybe I'll have to make them little stuffies for the holiday. I love you blog, by the way.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. They are adorable!
ReplyDeletedo you have any advice for stuffing material? I'm making some fabric pumpkin decorations for fall and my first pumpkin turned out great (i used really soft fluff from a cheap ikea pillow) and my second pumpkin turned out really lumpy (i used cheap itchy feeling fluff) I don't know if my second pumpkin is lumpy because it's quite a bit bigger than the first or because I used yucky filling. any thoughts?
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing. I totally printed the pattern earlier and hope I can squeeze in some time to make them this weekend. Thanks for all the pics and how to's!
ReplyDeleteI would like to sign up for your weekly blog, and would like to rec'v it in my email. How do I do that?
ReplyDeleteMy email is loretnc@gmail.com
Thanks!
What an adorable little fox. Yea, I think if you were to be making that noise you might have the neighbors calling the cops reporting their neighbor being attacked. It sounds like a woman screaming/screeching almost. LOL
ReplyDeleteThank you for the cute tutorial.
I love that you did foxes; they are too darn cute. I feel that they are underrepresented, like the hedgehog, in the crafting world. I will have to make a collection of all your friends someday.
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute! I can't wait to make them! How do you have such a diverse fabric collection? I keep finding these great fabrics on the blogosphere and I would have to go to Joanne's every day to stock up on stuff!
ReplyDeleteoh how cute! reminds me of the movie Mr. Fox!
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial! love it, thanks for sharing
